If you consumed alcohol during your pregnancy & are concerned that your baby may have Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, some signs and symptoms to watch for that are often seen in FAS babies include:
- Abnormal facial features
- Narrow, small eyes with epicanthal folds
- Small head circumference
- Small upper jaw
- Smooth groove in upper lip
- Smooth and thin upper lip
- Short, upturned nose
- Deformities of joints, limbs, and fingers
- Growth problems (both in and out of the womb)
- Vision difficulties
- Hearing problems
- Abnormal behavior, such as short attention span, hyperactivity, poor impulse control, or extreme nervousness and anxiety
- Delayed development in the areas of thinking, speech, movement, and social skills
- Decreased muscle tone
- Poor coordination
- Learning disabilities
- Heart defects
- Mental retardation
- Premature birth
- Miscarriage
- Infant death
